La mirabile visione (1921)
La mirabile visione (1921) Direction: Caramba (Luigi Sapelli); scriptwriter: Fausto Salvatori; photography: Carlo Montuori; production: Tespi-Film (Rome); original length 4026m.
Made to mark the celebrations of the sixth centenary of the death of the Supreme Poet, the film is dedicated to the life and works of Dante Alighieri. The complex structure, divided into two parts, which are in turn divided into episodes, is a true colossal that was produced thanks to huge investments by Tespi-film and by the Società Editoriale Cinematografica, owner of the storyline. Its release in the cinema was backed by a huge advertising campaign, but the film did not obtain the hoped-for success.
CSC-Cineteca Nazionale collaborated with Archives Françaises du Film del CNC (Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée) to recover and restore the film. Digital restoration was carried out by CNC using two original tinted films, both incomplete: one was the original Italian version from the archives of CSC-Cineteca Nazionale, the other, corresponding to the original French version, conserved at the CNC, in the Gaumont Pathé Archives. The reconstruction was also made possible thanks to the use of the original screenplay at the Biblioteca L. Chiarini in the CSC.
