18. Future Challenges

It’s almost time to say goodbye. It’s been quite a journey through this unique place where centuries of love of nature, cultural revolutions, and stories of extraordinary characters cohabit.

Here, quality standards are always high. In science as well as in teaching. The living collections have been adapted to the changing needs imposed by the progress of botanical disciplines.

And there’s still a lot to discover about the plant world. Our nearby laboratories are at the forefront of new challenges: the evolutionary history of plants, the sustainable use of natural resources, the use of algae as food or biofuels, the in situ and ex situ conservation of endangered species.

The botanical garden has always been abreast of the times and still is. A place where ideas are compared, renewed and circulated.
