The Punta Palascìa Lighthouse hosts a visitor's route that provides  unique opportunity to look out towards the sea while reflecting on how humans alter the balances of ecosystems, both for better and for worse.

It is the "Museum of Mediterranean Ecosystem Ecology." The result of scientific activity at the University of Salènto, the museum offers insights of a naturalistic, artistic, and archaeological nature through which one can discover how Mediterranean ecosystems function. A narrative that tightly links the sea with Otranto's historical and artistic heritage.

The museum features several multimedia paths, continually updated thanks to the scientific work of the Observatory.

A thematic path runs through the entire Adriatic coast, focusing on the natural heritage and the state of the sea's health in the Otranto Channel.

Another section describes the process of coevolution between humans and the ecosystems of Mediterranean lagoons.

A third itinerary addresses the most urgent challenge: the conservation of biodiversity as a fundamental prerequisite for our planet's life. The theme is tackled by presenting the fauna and flora of particularly relevant ecosystems that are part of the Natura 2000 network, the European's primary tool for biodiversity conservation. It's a long-term investment that ensures the preservation of natural habitats.
