Sala di Lettura

In this reading room, visitors can admire some examples of Gio Ponti’s distinctive design, in the lamps and sheer elegance of the furnishings, but also in details such as doors, handles and coatracks.

Of particular interest is Ponti’s choice of contrast between the green and red striped marble floor and the monochrome decoration of the white ceiling. A tribute, perhaps, to the Italian flag.

Above the sofa, two large enamel-on-copper panels are by Paolo De Poli and depict Podestà Rusca and Bishop Giordano, considered the two highest-ranking authorities in Padua at the time the university opened, in 1222.
